QUEEN’S PARK – Bill 8 – The Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, 2012, introduced by Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey (PC) and Hamilton East – Stoney Creek MPP Paul Miller (NDP), was signed into law June 19, 2012 when His Honour David Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, signed the document giving Royal Assent, completing the final step in becoming provincial law. Bill 8, establishes a not-for-profit, single point-of-contact call system for all underground
infrastructure location services in Ontario.
Bill 8, passed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on June 14th becomes one of only seven pieces of legislation that has successfully been passed through the minority parliament elected last October.
“I am very pleased that this bill has passed,” said MPP Bailey about his first successful piece of legislation. “This new law isn’t just about streamlining a confusing system to make it easier to dig in your backyard; it’s about preventing accidents and saving lives. But also, this law will cut red tape, allow shovels to get into the ground quicker and put job creating plans into action faster.”
Clearway Construction would like to congratulate the Ontario Provincial Government for the passage Of Bill 8 as it will lead to shorter project start-up times and most importantly safer infrastructure projects in the province.
