The Objective
Emery Creek is widely acknowledged as one of the largest pollution contributors to Humber River. Our task was to build a pond and stormwater treatment facility for Emery Creek at the mouth of the river, in order to improve the water quality of the river in its entirety.
Challenges
This project required the excavation of a very large area and the installation included clay liners and geomembranes throughout the site. In performing these tasks we had to cross six major oil pipelines, which required us to uncover and shore each pipeline.
The Result
We engineered and constructed three stormwater retention ponds which have slowed runoff and allowed for pollution to settle before entering the Humber River, greatly improving the overall water quality.
